This periodically updated Privacy Policy details what personal data is collected and how it is handled when you use our digital services, such as the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games (the “YOG 2020”) website (; ), along with any platform, website, mobile application or any other forms of digital service  used in connection with the YOG 2020 (the “Digital Platforms”), including volunteer and spectator registration, and other online services offered on the Digital Platforms (collectively, the "Services") managed by the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee ("Lausanne 2020"), alone or in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee (the “IOC”).

By using our Services, some of your personal data is collected and processed by Lausanne 2020 in accordance with this Privacy Policy. When we refer to "we", "us", or "our", we are referring to Lausanne 2020 (and where indicated in this Privacy Policy, the IOC), and when we refer to "you" or "your", we are referring to you, as the user of our Services.

Specific rules and additional terms may apply due to the nature and purpose of certain Services (the "Specific Rules") – for example, some volunteer and spectator registration platforms. Where applicable, these specific Rules will be communicated before you use the relevant Services and will take precedence over the terms of this Privacy Policy in the event of differences.

What data do we collect?

Data you provide to us

You may provide us with data, including personal identifying information, when you register for our Services, create a user account, contact us, or apply for accreditation for the YOG 2020 or other events hosted by Lausanne 2020.

Personal data is categorised as follows:

User account data, such as your first name, last name, age, gender, login and password information;

Contact and communication information, such as your physical address, email address, phone number and professional title;

Data related to your participation in the YOG 2020, such as your accreditation number and arrival/departure information; and

Any additional information you provide to us by indicating your interest in particular athletes, teams, sports or events, so that we can personalise your use of our Services.

As part of the application process for accreditation for the YOG 2020, additional data may be collected, such as your nationality, photo and identity document information.

We will notify you of any additional data needed to provide you with the Services requested, as well as other terms and conditions for processing your personal data to provide you with our Services.

Publicly available information

The Digital Platforms may aggregate certain information (e.g. posts, photos and videos) from publicly available user accounts opened by third parties on social media services such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. These services are subject to their own terms of service and privacy policies, and we recommend you read them.

Any person whose social media content is posted on the Digital Platforms may contact Lausanne 2020 at to have said content removed from our Digital Platforms.

Automatically collected data

We may use, jointly with the IOC, automatic tracking mechanisms (cookies) to collect certain data while you are browsing the Digital Platforms. A cookie is a small file, stored on your browser or computer hard drive, which is used to collect data about your interactions with our Digital Platforms, such as browser type, operating system, IP address, browsing date and time. The cookie does not collect any data from your computer or access your personal files. 

We use cookies to improve the content of our Digital Platforms, customise it according to user preferences and conduct traffic and audience research.

How do we use the data that we collect?

Purpose of processing personal data

We use the personal data we collect about you and your use of our Services to:

Make your use of the Services easier, and enable you to register, log in to and manage your user account. Where you have agreed to create a user account, the IOC will continue to keep your information including after the end of the YOG 2020 so that you will be able to continue to use your account for other digital services offered by the IOC in accordance with the IOC’s privacy policy (available at the following link: unless you object to such processing;

Enable you to participate in the YOG 2020, and fulfil your role and mission in relation to this event, including processing your application as a YOG 2020 volunteer or determining your eligibility for YOG 2020 accreditation;

Enable the continuity and development of our Services;

Collect statistics to help diagnose potential problems and improve your experience of our Services;

Guarantee the security of our Services and their use in accordance with the Digital Platforms' Terms of Service and other additional terms applicable to our various Services (collectively, the "Terms of Service") and applicable laws and regulations;

Provide you with a personalised experience of our Services based on your preferences, including letting you participate in any game, contest, or other fan engagement opportunity which we and/or the IOC may make available through the Services;

Provide you with the information and content you request;

Comply with our legal obligations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations; and

Provide you with information, including by email, about your user account and our Terms of Service and, if you have indicated your consent or meet the legal requirements to receive such information, send you information (through push notification) and/or send you promotional communications (including by email and other means), established jointly with the IOC, about the Services, the YOG 2020 and our activities, as well as those of the IOC, the Olympic Movement and its partners, while giving you the opportunity to unsubscribe from such communications at any time. Where you have agreed to receive promotional communications (including by email and other means) from the IOC, the IOC will continue sending you such communication including after the end of the YOG 2020 in accordance with the IOC’s privacy policy (available at the following link: unless you unsubscribe from such communications.

Legal basis for processing personal data

You will find below a list of the legal grounds upon which we base our processing of your personal data:

Execution of our contractual relationship with you allows us to process personal data for the purposes set out in (i) to (ix) above;

Your explicit consent to send you communications, as provided for in paragraph (ix) above, while giving you the opportunity to unsubscribe from such communications at any time;

Our legitimate interests, including providing safe and efficient Services in accordance with the Terms of Service, so that our visitors, partners and fans may receive high-quality Services, as set out in paragraph (v) above;

Compliance with our legal obligations as valid justification for sharing your personal data with the relevant authorities, if we are obliged to do so.

With whom do we share your data?

We may share your data, to the extent necessary to achieve the purposes stated in this Privacy Policy, with the IOC, IOC affiliates (i.e. Olympic Channel Services S.A., IOC Television & Marketing Services S.A., Olympic Broadcasting Services S.A., the Olympic Foundation and the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage, all based in Lausanne, or Olympic Broadcasting Services S.L. and Olympic Channel Services S.L., based in Madrid), and third parties who provide us with services such as the development and provision of recording platforms, data hosting, email communication and push notification services or analytics, audience and advertising measurement services.

We reserve the right to disclose your personal data when required by law or in any judicial or administrative proceeding, and to the extent necessary, to investigate, prevent or take action in connection with any unlawful activities or breach of the Terms of Service.

How do we protect personal data?

Data security

We take technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data from any risk of damage, destruction, loss or unauthorised access, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

International transfer of data

Personal information will generally be processed in Switzerland or the European Union; however, for the purpose of processing identifying data according to the legal grounds set forth in this Privacy Policy, we may transfer your data to the above-mentioned recipients, some of whom may be based in countries whose laws do not ensure equivalent protection of your data as the regulations in force in Switzerland or the European Union. Prior to transferring data to these countries, we implement protection mechanisms recognised by Swiss and European authorities, such as model contractual clauses, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Minimum age

Services are intended for users aged 13 years old (or older) and who are either of legal age under the laws of their country of residence, or who have obtained the consent of a parent or guardian to use the Services. For certain Services, including volunteer registration for the YOG 2020, specific minimum-age rules are stated and must be complied with.

If we become aware that a child has provided us with their personal data without the permission of their parents or legal guardian, we will take appropriate steps to delete the data and close the child's user account.
