On the weekend of 2-3 March, the Vallée de Joux will play host to a stage of the cross-country skiing European Cup, as well as the OPA games. These events will serve as a rehearsal for the Youth Winter Olympics that will take place in less than a year’s time.
Top class competition makes a return
19 years after the last international cross-country ski event was held at Brassus, the Vallée de Joux will again play host to top-level cross-country skiing. The whole region is immensely proud to be hosting an event of such a magnitude. In total, more than 100 volunteers will be present, along with between 400 and 500 athletes. This major event represents much more than just a simple skiing competition for the region.
All of the races will take place at Grandes Roches, the venue at which the Youth Olympic races will be held. The events will provide the ideal opportunity for the organising committee to test the infrastructure prior to the Games. The tests will focus in particular on the snow cover, race offices, spectator flow, car-parking, security and transport. It will also be the occasion to test the trails which, whilst already certified by the FIS, will be used for the first time.
