Each year, China hosts the renowned World Winter Sports Expo (WWSE), which brings together 130,000 people from the worlds of sport and tourism. For the second consecutive year, a delegation from Lausanne 2020 made the trip to Beijing with a view to exchanging ideas on the opportunities that winter sports offer to a country, as well as promoting the Vaud Alps and other competition venues of the next Winter Youth Olympic Games, notably through an exhibition stand.
During the round table discussions, Ian Logan, Chief Executive of Lausanne 2020, spoke of the potential that the Olympic Games offer to promote development within the host cities. It was a discussion that was both timely and beneficial in terms of identifying possible synergies, with the next Winter Olympic Games and Youth Winter Olympic Games taking place in China and Switzerland respectively.
Lausanne 2020 was represented by Ian Logan, CEO, Grégoire Junod, Mayor of Lausanne and member of the Lausanne 2020 executive committee, as well as members of the organising committee. Also present were Nicolas Bideau, Head of Presence Switzerland, Melanie Duparc, General Secretary of the World Union of Olympic Cities, Martin Nydegger, CEO of Swiss Tourism, Andreas Banholzer, Director of Vaud Tourist Information, Steeve Pasche, Director of Lausanne Tourism and representatives from various international winter sports federations.
