Ski Mountaineering World Cup in Villars
After China and Wanlong, the ISMF World Cup of ski mountaineering travelled to Villars-sur-Ollon on January 20th and 21st. As a pre-YOG event, this competition was key for the young athletes. It provided useful experience concerning the next Winter Youth Olympic Games, given that Villars will host the ski mountaineering events in January 2020.
Saturday, snow and nice weather welcomed the public in Villars. All the necessary conditions were present for this challenging event that awaited the world’s best ski mountaineering athletes – an individual 14-kilometer race with a 1,668-meter positive elevation gain.
Unfortunately, the competition’s jury had to cancel Sunday’s sprint, due to extreme weather conditions. Although this was regrettable, a new meeting has already been planned for 2019!
The ISMF World Cup has hit the road for the Principality of Andorra, where it will host the next event, this following week-end.
