BodyCity, urban sports and art gathered in a sound-and-light open-air skatepark

Unique creation imagined for Lausanne en Jeux! - the animation program of the Youth Olympic Games Lausanne 2020 - BodyCity is a show where arts and urban sports meet in an impressive open-air setting, on the place Centrale of Lausanne. Five performances will take place in public on January 9, 11, 12, 18 and 19, 2020 at 6 p.m.

"Bodies in fusion with the city", it is from this strong image that Nicolas Musin directed BodyCity, a contemporary show questioning the relationship of young generations to the city. On an open-air stage representing a city in constant mutation, more than 50 performers aged between 9 and 30 years will cross their disciplines from January 9, bringing together urban arts and sports such as skateboarding, BMX, rollerblading, scooter, parkour and dance.

Central figure of the show, Tom Loretan, a young 9-year-old skateboarder, will introduce the public to his world where artistic, sports and urban disciplines intersect and merge. With every encounter, he will evolve in a 300m2 skatepark-like setting on Place Centrale and immerse us in imaginary cities. A journey that is both poetic and spectacular in the heart of Lausanne, where video, sound and light mix!

Imagined within the framework of Lausanne en Jeux!, this show is above all a work of youth carried by art schools and urban disciplines training centers established in the Lausanne conurbation. BodyCity was thus able to bring together different Lausanne actors such as the students of the ECAL (conception of video images) of the HEMU (composition of the original music and recording of the soundtrack), the dancers of the Ecole-Atelier Rudra Béjart (dance and percussion), JDS Events (hip hop, breakdance) as well as the riders of La Fièvre and the tracers of X-Trem Move. A meeting between different cultures and disciplines that the director Nicolas Musin has managed to reunite in order to offer a unique and unprecedented show in Lausanne.

Started a year before the Youth Olympic Games with the composition of video images and music, this project materialized in rehearsals that started last November, in a hall of the Palais de Beaulieu with 50 rehearsals in 27 days.

In regard of the discipline requirements, each performance was solely performed by the different actors, then brought together to integrate the common thread and the transitions between the different sequences. Complex work, in an unheated hall to reproduce the conditions of the outdoors.

"All the performers touched me to the highest point; to see them work, to question themselves during the rehearsal phase with the aim of reproducing the same performance on an outdoor stage, in the heart of winter when the weather conditions can change at all, is proof of great courage, commitment, professionalism but above all passion", says Nicolas Musin,

A show open to all, taking place from January 9 on Place Centrale of Lausanne at 6:00 p.m.
