23,750 school students are plunged into tests with the theme of Lausanne 2020

Each year, students in Grades 4, 6, 8 and 10 of the ninety-two schools in Vaud undertake the 'Epreuves cantonales de référence (ECR)', an academic evaluation that helps ensure the harmonization of schooling requirements and the quality of the school system across the Canton of Vaud.

The requirements aim to ensure equal treatment between students and provide external benchmarks to help teachers identify the progress of students. This year, four of the eight 'out-of-class' events have the common theme of the Youth Olympic Games.

(YOG) Lausanne 2020! "We have included all, or part of, themes from the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2020 in ECR subjects. We have included YOG 2020 themes for all ECR mathematics (6P, 8P and 10S), and the ECR French dictation for 10S included a text on YOG 2020" explains Philippe Linder, head of the department for student assessment and the school system at the Canton de Vaud 'Direction pédagogique'. There are in total some 23,750 students who have been tested on the theme colors of the Games.

"The idea of having Lausanne 2020 as a main theme in the ECR was conceived in early 2017. In both French and German ECRs, the text is always linked to a theme. In mathematics, there is a general rule, that the theme serves as a guide. The choice of theme is chosen by those who create the exam papers. This is the first time that there is a common theme to a set of ECRs ", concludes Philippe Linder.
