More than 1000 delegates from 206 National Olympic Committees, representatives from international sporting federations, the IOC, and organising committees of future Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games met in Tokyo on 28th and 29th November 2018.
Lausanne 2020 was represented by Roger Schnegg, General Secretary of Swiss Olympic and member of our Executive Committee, Ian Logan, Chief Executive, and Jérôme Rochat, Head of NOC Relations & Services. The latter two spoke of the success of Buenos Aires 2018, notably in terms of engagement, and presented an update on Lausanne 2020. The presentation aimed to take the delegates behind the scenes and to talk to them about plans for the athlete experience, the venues, the Olympic village, innovations, projects to engage youngsters and, of course, the legacy. All this with the opening ceremony only 406 days away!
Ian Logan paid a poignant tribute to our President, Patrick Baumann, who passed away on 13 October 2018 in Buenos Aires. Patrick Baumann was one of the cornerstones of Lausanne 2020 and a passionate advocate of the games. He would have been present in Tokyo as part of the Lausanne delegation.
