The Lausanne 2020 Organising Committee is pleased to announce that Killian Peier, a rising talent in Swiss ski jumping, 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships bronze medallist, has joined the Lausanne 2020 adventure to take part in the promotion of the Youth Olympic Games.
A former Youth Olympian joins the Lausanne 2020 family. After participating in the 2012 Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck (AUT), Killian Peier was propelled onto the international sports scene among the best athletes in his category to finally win the bronze medal 7 years later at the 2019 Nordic World Ski Jumping Championships in Seefeld (AUT). On that day, this native from La Sarraz (Vaud, Switzerland) became a true star in Swiss winter sports.
Alongside the 12 other ambassadors of Lausanne 2020, Killian Peier will share his background and experience through various initiatives, particularly those related to youth engagement and the promotion of sport. For example, he recently spoke about his experience as a YOG athlete and the Lausanne 2020 project during a presentation at La Vallée de Joux, host site of Lausanne 2020 Cross Country skiing disciplines. This month, he also took part in a physical test with the Service d’Education Physique et du Sport (SEPS) of the State of Vaud to raise awareness among young people of the challenges involved in training and coaching for high performance.
Killian Peier: “The Youth Olympic Games were a crucial step for me in my preparation for other important events, whether it be the World Cup or the World Championships. Taking part in an Opening Ceremony or in official trainings are things that young athletes must adapt to and that are an integral part of the Olympic Games. Living these experiences first hand is extremely enriching and formative for their future. It is also an opportunity – almost unique – to meet athletes from all over the world who practice sports other than our own. As a native of the region, I had the chance to train many times in Les Tuffes stadium, the venue in neighbouring France which will host the ski jumping competitions next January. That chance is now given to the future ski jumping stars who will have the honour of taking part in Lausanne 2020!“
