Villars, one of the Lausanne 2020 host sites in the heart of the Vaudois Alps, was home to European Cup skicross and FIS snowboard cross events from January 11th to 12th. Under a beautiful, sunny sky, and full of fresh snow on perfectly groomed slopes, the snowpark offered optimal conditions for this high-quality event on Saturday. However, the weather deteriorated during the night and Sunday’s races were unfortunately canceled.
« The organizers in Villars have once again shown the excellent quality of their work in this event’s preparation. Even though there was fresh snow, everything was ready and done perfectly. A brilliant success for Villars, in view of the Youth Olympic Games in 2020!”, summarized Simone Righenzi, Sports Director of Lausanne 2020.
The Villars snowpark will be home to the skicross and boardercross events in January 2020, when elite athletes will be battling to win Olympic medals in their disciplines. The ski resort will also be hosting the Ski Mountaineering competitions, first-time events for the Games.
