The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) came to Malley on the 29th of August to visit the construction site of the brand new ice rink-to-be of Lausanne. An ice rink which, only a few months after the 2020 Youth Olympic Games, will host the hockey world championship.
Sport director Christian Hofstetter and sport manager Aku Nieminen’s visit was part of a workday between Lausanne 2020 and the IIHF. Its aim was to clarify details of the operational planning and the 6 nations tournaments organisation, as well as the new 3-on-3 format for the 2020 YOG.
Let’s remind ourselves that the Malley Sports Centre plans the building of three ice rinks (main, training and outdoors), an aquatic centre (diving pool, 50 metre Olympic pool, leisure pool and paddling pool), a fencing centre and a table tennis centre. The ice rink, host of the Lausanne 2020 young athletes in January 2020, will be finished as of summer 2019.
